The Drive Back

On our way to the West coast we did the full nine hours (plus with stopping to eat and washrooms etc) in one day. On the way back we broke the trip up into two days, staying with my parents in Gander Bay for a night. They have quite nice camping facilities in their front yard too;)!

En route, we stopped into Corner Brook and had lunch at the Captain James Cook National Historic Site.

Then onward we pressed to Gander Bay. The next morning, we finally bought salmon fishing licenses for our boys (Eldest has been nagging since Christmas) at my cousin's shop and headed off to a salmon river where I got to go kayaking while the boys fished.  

It was a great day though the boys didn't catch anything. I am particularly proud of this picture: "A Boy Fishing".

Then it was onwards to home. I hope the movie above works. I haven't added on to the blog in so long I've quite forgotten how!

Summer Camping Trip 2016

We lucked out on our camping trip this year. Gorgeous weather and a gorgeous location. The only downside was that our destination was on the West coast of Newfoundland which meant a 9 hour drive from home to be able to set up our tent. It was so worth it. And nine hours means a lot of knitting time...

We camped at Blow Me Down Provincial Park in Lark Harbour, NL and, let me tell you, it is worth the trip from wherever you are. The sites are nice and private (though there is just no way to avoid trailers with generators when you're tenting these days is there???), the outhouses very clean, and the same with the showers etc at the comfort station. And look at the beach in the day use area.

The waters were clear and cold but the boys managed to get in for a bit regardless. Youngest spent the most time in the water floating around and showing off his 'swimming' skills (he can't swim yet).

We spent every night in nearby Bottle Cove watching the sunset complete with a fire on the beach.

Naturally there was knitting at the beach too.

We did a lot of hiking on trails ranging from easy to moderate/difficult. We found this gorgeous waterfall at the end of an easy .5 kilometre walk in from the trail head. 

I knit on the rocks while the boys fished. It was heaven. That's 100% alpaca on a rock right there by the way.

Another easy route was from Bottle Cove beach and around to the point starting with this lovely boardwalk.

And no trip would be complete without a trip to the local restaurants. I can highly recommend the Captain Cook Eatery complete with unicorn ice cream.

A very successful camping trip all in all. 

A Summers Day in Cupids

We are just back from our wonderful summer 2016 camping trip. As I am way behind in blog posts on what we've been up to this summer, here's a start on catching up.

A few weekends ago on a stunning summer day we drove into Conception Bay North and the community of Cupids, most famous for having been the first approved British settlement by John Guy in 1610.

We spent a considerable amount of time on this beach playing in the water - very refreshing after hiking - and enjoying the sights.

Legend has it that pirates used this arch and cave to hide from authorities and to hide treasure.

Wouldn't the colours of this rock make a great colour way for knitting?

To the boys delight, some blueberries were ripe. In Newfoundland we say that unripe berries are 'green'. Therefore, these pink berries aren't pink, they're green!
